    Fresno Bee:

    By Barbara Anderson

About 575 registered nurses at the Kaiser hospital in Fresno are expected to walk off the job Thursday in a one-day sympathy strike to support the hospital’s optical, mental health and social workers.

The Fresno nurses are among about 17,000 Kaiser nurses statewide who are planning to strike.

The strike involves about 45 optical, psychiatric and social workers at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Fresno who are among 4,000 Kaiser employees statewide represented by the National Union of Healthcare Workers. NUHW and Kaiser have been in a contract dispute over health and retirement benefits and staffing levels.
